Am 11. und 12, Mai 2017 veranstaltet die Professur für Industrieökonomie, Wettbewerbspolitik und Regulierung an der Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen, Prof. Dr. Georg Goetz, unterstützt von der Deutschen Bahn, einen international besetzten Workshop unter dem Titel „Financing and Performance of the European Rail Sector“. Der Workshop findet in englischer Sprache statt.
The workshop’s focus is on the extent and the structure of public budget contributions to European railways as well as its implications on the performance of the sector. Topics of interest include approaches to compare the level of public budget contributions between countries as well as analyses of the performance of the sector. A further topic concerns the regulation of the sector and its interaction with specific financing structures in the determination of incentives for market participants.
Keynote Speaker will be Professor Chris Nash, Institute for Transport Studies, University of Leeds. As Speakers and Panelists are announced: Lorenzo Casullo (ITF/OECD), Torben Holvad (European Union Agency for Railways), Russell Pittman (Economic Analysis Group Antitrust Division US Department of Justice BICN), Yves Crozet (Université de Lyon), Pilar Socorro (Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), Frank Jost (European Commission), Christiane Trampisch (Bundesnetzagentur) and others.

Deutsche Podiumsveranstaltung zum Abschluss
Den Abschluss des Workshops bildet am 12. Mai ein (deutschsprachiges) Policy Panel, das unter der Überschrift „Halbierung der Schienenmaut?“ die Thematik der Finanzierung und Leistungsfähigkeit des Bahnsektors konkret wirtschaftspolitisch für Deutschland diskutiert. Moderiert wird das Panel von Dieter Fockenbrock (Handelsblatt).
